National Months Collide

Growing up in Dayton, Ohio, my family had a lot of traditions, and most of them revolved around food. We were always obsessed with having one question answered, “what’s for dinner.” There were two days out of the week that I knew were “special” – Wednesday and Friday. Often on Wednesdays, especially during the fall, we would sit outside around a Weber Smokey Joe and grill hot dogs. On Fridays, no questions asked, this was pizza night. Reflecting on our traditions, I cherish the time and how my parents would go above and beyond to make each night special, even in the simplest of ways. They knew our preferences—one of which was topping our freshly roasted hot dogs with Skyline Original Chili.
Now, as an adult working for Dewey’s Pizza, you can imagine my delight as I get to help create those same moments for others. So as fate would have it, I learned that October is not only National Pizza Month but also National Chili Month, it felt like the stars had aligned. Better yet, I was informed that for the second year in a row, Dewey’s and Skyline Chili are teaming up to bring back the Skyline Dip Deluxe! Now that’s something to talk about.

The Mashup that broke the internet
Fans had a lot to say about Skyline Dip Deluxe, most raved and some… well, let’s just say they were curious. Within 24 hours of launch, Dewey’s was out of chili. In one week, we sold more than 5,000 pizzas (that’s more than cheese and pepperoni), PR featuring the collaboration was in the billions, and social media was in the hundreds.. We underestimated the viral trend.
Skyline Chili, is a Cincinnati-born staple since 1949. Known for its unique take on chili, served atop spaghetti or hot dogs and topped with a generous helping of shredded cheddar cheese. Its distinct, secret blend of Mediterranean-inspired spices gives it a flavor unlike any other chili. Loved for its classic 3-way, 4-way, and 5-way combinations, Skyline has become a regional favorite, expanding its presence across the Midwest.

Skyline Dip Deluxe
Skyline Dip Deluxe is the “way” you never knew you always needed. A cream cheese base pizza topped with Skyline Chili, mozzarella cheese, mild cheddar, small red beans, diced onions with sour cream, diced tomatoes, and chopped green onions after the bake. Like any good Skyline dish, have it your way- with or without beans and onions. If you’re a spicy food fan, add our house-pickled jalapeños. Personal opinion, one bite and you’ll be hooked!
With October being a month to celebrate both pizza and chili, we couldn’t think of a better way to kick things off. Mark your calendars, because starting Wednesday, October 8, the Skyline Dip Deluxe returns for a limited time only. This year, we’re making a special effort to share the love with everyone. For the first time, this collaboration will be available at all Dewey’s Pizza locations until October 20.
